Znanstveno srečanje / Scientific meeting

Z znanstvenim srečanjem bomo naslovili 4 glavne teme:

  1. Genski inženiring in ogrožene populacije (urejanje genov imunske odpornosti),

  2. Biotehnološki pristopi in situ in ex situ (razmnoževalna biologija, ponovno oživljanje izumrlih vrst; de-ekstinkcija, bio-banke)

  3. Nadzor invazivnih vrst in upravljanje s populacijami (nadzor komarjev, iztrebljanje glodavcev, invazivne rastline),

  4. Uporabnost sintezne biologije v ohranjanju in varovanju vrst (ne direktni vplivi varstva narave- sinteza novih produktov, bioremediacija).

Znanstveno srečanje je organizirano v sklopu COST akcije Poznavanje genomske diverzitete za odporne ekosisteme (G-BIKE). Projekt G-BIKE temelji na vzpostavljanju raziskovalne mreže, ki povezuje znanstvenike in strokovnjake po vsej EU in širše, z namenom poudarjanja in vključevanja genetskih in genskih orodij za ohranjanje biotske raznovrstnosti. V hitro spreminjajočem se okolju je odpornost ekosistemov odvisna od prilagodljivosti vrst. S projektom G-BIKE priznani znanstveniki želijo vzpostaviti uporabo genskih podatkov kot standardno orodje za spremljanje in upravljanje rastlinskih in živalskih vrst za zagotovitev njihovega ohranjanja ter nadaljnje zagotavljanje ekosistemskih storitev, ki temeljijo na naravi.

Four main topics will be addressed:

  1. Genetic engineering in endangered populations (gene editing of resistance genes)

  2. Biotechnology approaches in situ and ex situ (reproduction biology, de‐extinction, biobanking)

  3. Controlling invasive species and managing populations (mosquito control, eradication of rodents, invasive plants )

  4. Synbio applications in conservation (indirect consequences on conservation such as novel synthetic products, bioremediation)

The scientific meeting is organized as part of the COST Action on Knowledge of Genomic Diversity for Resilient Ecosystems (G-BIKE). The G-BIKE project is based on the establishment of a research network that brings together scientists and experts across the EU and beyond, with a view to highlighting and integrating genetic and genetic tools for biodiversity conservation. In a rapidly changing environment, ecosystem resilience depends on species adaptability. With the G-BIKE project, scientists want to establish the use of genetic data as a standard tool for monitoring and managing plant and animal species to ensure their conservation and further provide ecosystem services.
