COURSE PROGRAM
The craft of scientific presentations is a major tool for academic careers in biology. This course will focus on the processes of scientific decision-making during the graduate studies period. It includes planning, structuring, writing, and presenting the results of scientific research orally.
I. CONTENTS
The course content will comprise the structuring and writing of undergraduate monographs, graduate dissertations, and PhD theses. The second major emphasis will cover the writing of scientific publications and presentations of science at meetings and congresses (seminar talks, posters, congress orals).
The courses will consist of 2 parts:
Part 1: Informative Lectures:
- Theoretical Part, Best Practice;
- Content design of Manuscripts,Posters, and Oral Presentations;
- Selection of Media for Publications;
Part 2: Applications:
- Figure and Table Design for Manuscripts, Posters, and Oral Presentations;
- Scientific Writing.
In addition to lectures, students will also receive individual consultations to support and enhance their independent assignments.
Target group:
This advanced-level course is designed primarily for master’s and doctoral students, as well as recent graduates in Conservation Biology, Nature Conservation, and related fields. Preference will be given to postgraduate students (MSc and PhD) and recent graduates, including those with a bachelor’s degree (BSc). Senior undergraduate students (BSc) with outstanding academic records will also be encouraged to apply.

ECTS points awarded: 3 ECTS
Before the summer school:
Students will receive access to basic literature before the summer school. Detailed instructions about the individual work will be delivered to the students during the course.
II. STUDENT'S OBLIGATIONS
To earn the assigned credit points, students are required to complete several tasks as determined by the lecturers. Those will lead towards poster preparation on the assigned topic or oral presentation at the end of the course. Each student attending the course needs to have a laptop.
III. CREDIT POINTS
According to regulations, and given the amount of work designed for these courses, the Summer School is credited with 3 ECTS (30 hours of lectures plus approximately 60 hours of individual work). The student is assigned these credit points and will receive a certificate after they have met the requirements given under "II. Student's obligations".
IV. ADDITION TO THE MAIN COURSES
During the period set aside for the preparation of independent assignments (as specified in Section II: Student’s Obligations), at least two additional lectures will be organised in the form of seminars. These sessions will showcase selected aspects of ongoing research conducted by the team responsible for this course program in the Brazilian Pantanal. The seminars are intended to further enhance the educational experience and will be open not only to course participants but also to interested non-participants (on BSc, MSc and PhD levels).
