The International Conference on Agglutinative Language Technologies as a challenge of Natural Language Processing (ALTNLP) has established itself as a multidisciplinary conference in natural language processing and machine learning along with, Computational Optimization. ALTNLP provides an international online forum for the presentation of original multidisciplinary research results as well as a platform for the exchange and dissemination of innovative and practical development.
ALTNLP aims to explore and discuss modern issues and approaches of natural language processing and machine learning to agglutinative languages and other weakly formalized languages. ALTNLP’s main objective is to provide an opportunity for leading academic scientists, researchers, engineers, scholars and other professionals from all over the world to contribute to the development of these fields and exchange new ideas as well as research outcomes in related fields, in turn, establishing lasting partnerships for future collaboration.
We invite original work and contributions from both the NLP and ML domain. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Natural Language Processing
● Specific standards, guidelines, tagsets, and terminology in NLP for morphologically-rich languages
● Resources, evaluation and other NLP Applications for agglutinative and other morphologically-rich Languages
● Text mining (classification, tagging, and parsing), information extraction and retrieval for agglutinative and other languages
● Machine learning and machine translation with a focus on agglutinative and morphologically rich languages
● Morphologically-rich corpora development for languages such as Turkic languages and more
● Methods and software to aid labour intensive tasks in the development of morphologically-aware resources and tools for NLP and ML tasks for Turkic and other languages

Invited speakers
Katharina Kann is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at CU Boulder, USA. She received her PhD from LMU Munich, Germany, and subsequently was a postdoc at NYU in New York, USA, before joining CU Boulder in 2020. Her work is focused on deep learning for natural language processing. More specifically, she is interested in multilingual NLP, language grounding, and NLP for educational applications.
Dr. phil. Eckhard Bick is a computational linguist and project leader for the VISL lab at the University of Southern Denmark, where he works as a language technology researcher at the Department of Language and Communication (ISK). Over the years he has designed and developed grammars, corpora, lexical resources, and applicational tools for a large number of languages, including most of the Romance and Germanic languages. Eckhard Bick is a leading expert in the field of Constraint Grammar, with a current focus on semantic annotation and machine translation. Eckhard Bick has published extensively on various aspects of computational linguistics and participated in a large number of international research projects.
Mans Hulden received his PhD in Linguistics from the University of Arizona in 2009. He joined the CU linguistics faculty in 2014 after postdoctoral research as a Marie Curie fellow at the University of Helsinki and a stint as visiting professor in Computer Science at the University of the Basque Country. His research focuses on developing computational methods to infer and model linguistic structure using varying degrees of prior linguistic knowledge, particularly in the domains of phonology and morphology. Dr. Hulden has worked extensively with linguistic applications of finite state technology, modeling of linguistic theory, grammatical inference, and the development of language resources, and is the author of several open-source tools for finite-state language modeling. He teaches courses in computational linguistics, phonology, and phonetics.
Publication possibilities
All of the papers accepted for the conference will be published in an E-Proceedings Book with an ISBN number at the CEUR Workshop Proceedings (http://ceur-ws.org/). Following the peer review process, selected full texts will be considered for publication in one of the following scientific journals after the journal’s review process.
Informatica: An International Journal of Computing and Informatics as a Special issue
Organizacija: Authors of selected papers dealing with organizational and managerial aspects of language technologies and information systems will be proposed to submit extended versions of their papers for publication in the journal Organizacija. Such papers will undergo a regular review process.
Slovenščina 2.0: empirical, applied, and interdisciplinary research, regular issue.
The organizers are negotiating with the journals that will publish the best papers from the conference on linguistic topics.
Registration and fees
